I have VOIP (BT Softphone so can I configure the SM56 Motorola faxmodem to use that, instead of the port COM4, which doesnt even exist on my laptop's device list? My BT Homehub has a phone too which can make VOIP calls, could that be connected to my lappy in some way to act as the landline?
I am not interested in internet fax services as they all want card details, and that aint happening no way no how!
Yes, I know email is clearer and faster but some things simply must be sent by fax, like bank documents and sensitive info that you'd not want to send through an email server like legal papers.
I pay 拢1.00 per page in the shop to send them, and would happily do the same via a premium phone number on the web, so why hasn't someone plugged the obvious gap in the market, I ask myself.
Thanks,

Surely someone has now come up with a way to send a fax using windows XP, on wireless broadband?
Without subscribing to a fax relay service you need to plug the machine's modem into a phone line. This can either be a standard line or the voip line from the BT hub.

Well, i have a HP office jet All-in-One in a wireless environment with which I do the entire operation without plugging in the All-in-one to any of my laptops or computers. I scan, send/receive fax directly on my laptop without using paper, print without hooking anything to my laptop as such. I have ADSL Broadband internet conection.
there is a software provided by fax manufacturer as per compatibility, with which you can send and receive fax directly on your laptop without using paper. This is also possiable in a wired environment.
the connection goes like:
Telephone --filter--1)telephone 2)modem--wireless/wired router--1)laptop 2) fax modem/all-in-one/printer (depending upon compatibility).
