i have just installed windows server 2003 and have dhcp running... i have 2 nic in place. both have a static ip ( 1 for my modem/router, one for my network in house).. i see the web from the sever but i can not get the other computers to see any thing...not even ping the sever. have my scope set for about 25 ip addresses to be given out but noted nothing being sent out or coming in from the status of the network screen. i am sure it is a simple setting that i have forgotten... hope someone can help me out...thanks to anyone.....
Sever 2003 with 2 nic?
So, what networks are the static IPs on, in particular, are they both on the same network? If so, that's part of the problem. For example, let's say they are 192.168.1.2 and 192.168.1.3, then the machine's gateway is to go to your modem/router (likely 192.168.1.1). So when one of the client computers pings the Win2003 server, the response is sent out to the modem/router, not back to the ping-er.
Sever 2003 with 2 nic?
your DHCP server: which NIC is it covering? look it up. it is most likely sending DHCP data to the wrong NIC.
if it is sending it to correct nic card then you mostly like are using a router to connect your computers together. to use DHCP on a network you need to use a HUB or a SWITCH.
if you got a small network then i recommend to install a router. I would recommend a router that you can install DD-WRT on so you can do a lot of stuff with it.
