I format my pc some days ago, then i installed the windows xp home edition (the same I had before), installed all the drivers and programs including the msn live messenger, internet explorer 7, yahoo messenger, symantec antivirus... and other programs as itunes, utorrent.

when I tried to open the internet explorer in says the web page could not open, the the msn messenger, dont conect and says i have a problem with the proxy server and the key port, yahoo messenger dont work and the same problem to conect with the antivirus.

here is the extrange thing I download the firefox and get me into internet with no problems, and the same with the utorrent, what is happening I really needs the two messengers

please help!!!!

and dont say the IE is bad or something, I need real and useful answers.

PD: I also called the adsl provider and they say is a computer problem, not the plug and play modem

Sounds like a firewall issue to be honest. Firefox is a good program that can get around firewalls as the ports it uses are usually open and not blocked by firewalls, unless you say so. A good way to check is turn off your firewall and see if things start to work again...give it about a 30sec after you turn it off to check if programs with connect or not. If they do, you just found your problem.

Do yourself a favour and get rid of Symantec AV, as Norton costs way too much, uses too much resouces, and there are better programs. Avast! Anti-virus, http://www.avast.com , and ZoneAlarm, http://www.zonealarm.com/store/content/c... , are free and great programs. I've never had a problem. :-)
