I have been getting Generic Host Process Win32 Error, each time I try to check for updates on windowsupdate website.
I hardly use IE, I mainly use Firefox and Opera. I ran AV scan nothing came up, I've started to uninstall some software, I've even tried system restore. Yes I did a google search on the error message and found one or two sites that mention disabling WIA, but I wanted another opinion from people that have encountered the same problem and what they did. My last resort is to re-format the Dell PC and reinstall everything from scatch. Any helpful advice related to this problem is greatly appreaciated

Hey buddy. :)
Honestly, I don't know exactly what your issue may be, but I know some info that you *may* find helpful. I never use IE myself, and I don't like using Windows Update since it requires me to turn on useless services that I don't use. I'm also a Firefox user.
Check this site out. http://windowsupdate.62nds.com/ It's legit, man. Basically you install their plugin for almost all non-IE browsers, and you update your computer with the offical Microsoft updates using their wesite and Firefox/Opera/etc. Screw IE.
Hope that saves you from having to reformat.
