I am honestly not sure if I want to do computer programming, web design or database administration. I know C,C++, some Java, javascript, python, HTML (I hand code it), SQL (Oracle and MS 2000), Pascal and VB. I know a little about artificial intelligence. I even know something about optimizing image file sizes for the web. I have an Associate's Degree in Computer Programming from 1999. I have a decent web presence due to various open source software that I helped with.
Despite all of this, I can't seem to get into any IT jobs. I got into one, but they let me go after a few months because they hired me for a position that they were not ready to hire anyone for in the first place. I was an MIS Developer I there. I used MS SQL Server 2000 while I was there.
How do I fix my career path and get into an IT job where I can be happy?
How do I fix my career path?
You can help yourself by getting some up to date certifications in areas of interest. Computers have changed a lot since 1999.
Good luck!

You just got to keep looking. Get a resume up on Dice and Monster and such and keep looking. Sounds like you got the training, just need to stick to your guns and you will find it.
I was in a similar situation and what helped was I got some help with the layout, words and such of my resume and re-posted it on the web and got a lot more job offers after that. Might be worth really fine tunning your resume for that reason.

With your knowledge of the different platforms, codes and straight IT jargain you can flip your whole career and make more money then you could by having a normal IT job.... How you ask??? Become an IT recruiter. There are a million vc backed start ups that had better get the right people in or they will not get their next round of funding. They will pay the 20% to 35% per placement. Seriously look in to it, it changed my life eight years ago... and it may help you out... Good Luck!!
