I under stand you can find web host sites but would like to find a quick and reletivley simple way of first learning the basics.
Any help appreciated.
Whats the quickest, most effective way to learn to host my own web page?
Sign up for a free site at someplace like geocities, tripod, angelfire, etc. Use their site builder to get something simple up in a matter of minutes. Then start playing around - crash it a few times - try some of the tricks you can find on the Internet, etc. Little hands on experience it you will be a pro in notime. (Stay away from myspace. They have that so "user friendly" that all you can do is use their interface. You can not do any real programming and learn HTML, etc).
Start with a fre site, and get your hand dirty....
Only way I know to learn it.

By saying you want to host your own site you are implying that you have your own server.
Most host sites have a simple guide for uploading. I used godaddy.com
I use SmartFTP to upload files to the server, it is free and very easy to use.
