I have a web site I woul dlike to host myself but want to use dynamicdns as I do not have a static IP. I can purchase one for 拢2 a month but If I can get away with dynamic DNS why bother?

My question is I have the ID, usernameand password to set it up but do I also need a DynamicDNS tool for the IP Aside on the server? If so, which one is the best and where can I finf it. A free one wul dbe ideal

You should use No-IP.com and add a CNAME record to your No-IP domain, followed by a dot.

For example, my no-ip domain is "62sv2.hopto.org" and I had a free domain "dttvb.yi.org", so I have to make a CNAME record to "62sv2.hopto.org." (Notice the dot after .org)

Or if your router supports Dynamic DNS, you can set your router to update it automatically.

For hosting, use XAMPP.

Register an account - log in - register a subdomain with noip. Download their Dyn. DNS client and run it on your computer. It'll get your WAN ip and update your subdomain to link to it.

Note, you'll also have to have a webserver on your computer such as Apache and port 80 (TCP) openened/forwarded if you're behind a router/firewall.

I know what you want to do but you shouldnt worry as hosters like myself assign dynamic IP's to your site because we dont want your site to have problems with being blocked by other DNS servers which as you know results in mail bounces.

The best solution for you is to try smaller hosts as they have more IP options then the big ones who strictly give one.
