I am planning to host a website on my computer.
I know about Abyss web server program.
But is there any other program that helps you turn your PC into a server? One that has nice stuff like control panels.
Webhosting on your own PC?
You should use Linux, Windows 2000, Windows Server 2003 to run a website(s). You can use XP Pro with Microsoft Information Server. Linux can use Apache or other linux based webservers. There are other third-party webservers for Windows systems.
Get a fixed IP address and a commercial DSL/Cable package. Do not use the web server PC for anything else. Get a battery back-up as well.
Abyss is pretty simple. If you need more advanced controls for end users get ready to invest some money. You would be better off as a web reseller.
Check out www.serverwatch.com for the latest on ftp, mail and web server software.

I don't know but PCStats has a guide on how to do just that, http://www.pcstats.com/articleview.cfm?a... hope that helps. I'm not sure it is as easy as you are looking for, though.
