I don't have the first clue about how to get a page live on the web. Where are the associated images hosted, stored or served? How much does this cost per month/year? Do you pay per page, or just the domain (i.e. example-page.com)?

Several sites offer a free membership with just the basics. Each will tell you how much you can store/save. You don't pay per page just for the general package. The more "bells and whistles" the more you pay. Domain names sometimes come with the package, sometimes not. For beginners I recommend either Geocities (Yahoo) or Tripod.

When I was learning I found Tripod to be the easiest. Go to both sites and research, or sign-up on both and try out each.

you could go w/ a free site like geocities.... but if you want a domain name... it's gonna be more if you want full features. i'd guess something like $15 per month... but i can't say for sure.
