I'm currently a freelance software and web developer thinking of setting up my own company. At present I'm making a decent enough profit but not nearly as much as I would in a full time job.
I've been thinking of taking a few more developers under my wing so enable me to take on much larger contracts but I'm worried that this still might not make me as much as working full time.
Does anyone have any rough statistics or profit info that could calm my nerves? :)
Advice: How much would a start-up Software/Web-design company roughly expect to make in a year?
It doesn't mean that you would earn more profit if you had a full time job than you would make with your own company. Full time job would offer you fixed salary and you could get some bonuses now and then, but that is all.
On the other hand if you are working as freelance web designer, you dictate how much you will earn. If you have a team of web designers, you can accept larger projects and even more of them at the same time and earn much more money than you would working for a fixed salary.
You may have some problems in the beginning, but as your clients grow in numbers, they will recommend you to others and for a very short time you could have a very nice income.
I believe that you already have some satisfied clients. The great place to find some more is GetAFreelancer (if you are already not familiar with them):
