Are there custody myths being peretrated?
Yes, I know of one woman who had a child with a father who had sexually abused his niece. When he got out of jail, he got full custody of her son.
My own father gotten custody of my sisters when my maternal grandmother who was their foster parent passed away (I was eighteen then and was going to college). He got abuse charges founded on him that time again, the same reason why we all went into placement in the first place. He then had another daughter who he has full custody but for some reason the light went on, but we still watch the situation.
As far as I know, perpetrators of the abuse cycle are always crying for their cause. Hopefully the new mediation system is making things better for advocacy in the child's best interest. Also, they are trained of the unbalanced power relationship typically seen in domestic violence cases for victims and their perpetrators.
Are there custody myths being peretrated?
I'm always wary of any literature that uses this "Myth:/ Fact:" format. In real life, complex issues don't break down into clear myths and facts. Notice that the site cites only "respectable" outfits, like the ABA and the CDC, but most studies are uncited. And even in an outfit like the ABA, a bunch of biased advocates can get together and form a special commission.
