something I can host on my own server and have users add or view documents of all types based on privileges. eRooms is a great program but to host it on my server is too expensive right now and I don't want my data on a remote hosted server for security and performance reasons. anybody have any ideas? they would be greatly appreciated!

There is an open source alternative "Alfresco", Details can be found on www.alfresco.com
