The first Linux application is being planned for your company, and it will be a web host for the company鈥檚 new online catalog. You have been given the task of choosing the Linux distribution that will be used. What criteria will you use to select one of the hundreds of Linux distributions that are available?

Actually I would probably use FreeBSD for any server application hell yahoo uses it. It is NOT LINUX. If I were 2 use linux I would go with Fedora Core.

Sounds like a question I ask my students. If it is to be a server, you take Debians or Redhat. If it is a desktop SUSE or Ubuntu.
If it needs to be a security server (IE transaction server) you flip to OpenBSD, which is not Linux

CentOS, Fedora for full open source.
RedHat ES if you want fully supported and backed servers.
Personnally I like Fedora as it has been proven fairly stable and has not had any MAJOR issues. Plus it doesnt cost much. However, If I were brand new to linux and the company you work for wants dependablity and support Go with ES
