I signed up for hosting and selected a linux server. The page has a lot of work on it, but now I want to try adding asp to it so I can do more. From a lesson that I'm starting, it looks like it only works with IIS. Is this true?

As pointed out by a few others. ASP is developed by Microsoft, therefore Microsoft being Microsoft only allow this code to work on Windows servers.

If you are looking to develop a database driven website on a linux server i suggest going for PHP. I use both ASP and PHP and find PHP a nice code to work with. However if you want a easy option if you select ASP, dreamweaver will do a lot of the hard coding for you. For example, this kind of script:

can be all built in dreamwever with little hand coding required.

Yes ASP is a language meant for people who only know about microsoft's version of computers not about real computers. Maybe you should use a language that works on all major operating systems: Windows, Mac, *and* of course Linux. Of course, you could always use the other languages like perl and stuff which are way more powerful than PHP.
