Decide what features you want your website to have, and write them down in an outline of some sort. Start with the big picture, and go deeper down into specifics. This can be done easily in a word processor.

Once you've figured out what you want your website to do and how that will be done, code it! Using web-based languages like ASP.Net or PHP, you can easily do almost anything and put it on the web.

Once you've made your scripts, THEN get your layout and impliment the scripts within that.

Best to start is to design the layout and colours on paper so you can have a rough idea of what the layout will be like. What colour background, text color etc. Plan it out first - thats what I find best to start.

Work with your hosting provider to find out what their primary and secondary nameservers are. You will need to update your domain registration with this information in order for your domain name to be linked to your web hosting account.
