I registered a domain name for my company a few years ago, as an example www.greatsolutions.co.uk.
I want to be able to make it into a website now, i want to get a company to host the website (i'm going to figure out how to design it in something like MS frontpage). Can i just tell them my domain name or do i have to 'deregister' it from the register company and reregister it with the new company or what?
Finally will i be able to get an email address like emma.hope@greatsolutions.co.uk from a webhost company?
Does any have any recommendations of a company that could do this for me, i want someone i can use (i am UK based) and offers good value for money (not necessarily the cheapest), good customer service etc.
Web Hosting?
Hi, points all below:
1. Your Domain - The most important thing to remember is to never never move your domain to the hosting company, you want to keep your domain at your current register company and only change the DNS servers. The reason is that you want to keep control of that domain name as bad hosting companies in the past have sometimes held it hostage to make you pay and stay with them or if they go bankrupt its hard for you to get your domain back. When you sign up with a hosting company they will give you DNS servers and then you can just go into your current register and change your DNS servers to those and within 10 to 36 hours everything will be working.
2. Your Email - yep that is no problem, the hosting company will have a control panel you can use to make those emails. Its easy and they will probably have a flash movie to show you how.
