I want to build a website but have no money to. I want to know can i get a free site like example.com instead of example.lycosfree.com.

No there isn't anybody that will give you a .com domain name for "free". There are some companies that will give you a domain name for no extra charge if you sign up for hosting, but I wouldn't recommend it because if you ever want to move hosting you may or may not be able to take your domain with you.
I always suggest that people buy their own domain names separately to be safe. IPower.com is the cheapest (and best) that I know of at only $6.50 per name.
Free web hosting is not all it's cracked up to be. You get what you pay for, so they say. And really it's not "free"... most will put ads up and not allow you to remove them or use your own ads. There are places that you can get in for around $25 per year. Save up some money and spend the $30 to do it the right way.

you can't get your own dedicated domain name without paying for it to be registered on the net.
