Is there a way to lookup a former domain owner?
You might be able to use Google Cache or some other caching network (WayBack Machine is a long shot, but worth it) in order to search for various public whois sites, and see if they have a cached lookup for the domain.
A very primitive search ( http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&clien... ) yields the domain in a list, but not a cached whois query :/.
The problem with your question is that domain registrars do not usually retain domain information should they expire/the account be canceled/the domain be suspended (legal, etc.).
And whois sites only look up the information and pass along whatever the registrar said.
They're "stateless" if that makes any sense.
You may have luck on other search engines that cache results should you so desire to actively try looking this up.
Good luck.
(While unlikely, if you knew /where/ the domain was registered previously, you *might* be able to get information from calling the registrar directly.)
