I am trying to get a hold of a domain name that I recently incorporated, but it is being held by a cybersquatter-someone who bought the domain with the thought that they will sell it later and make a profit. I heard that there was a lawsuit against these cybersquatters from some large Fortune 500 companies and the judge ruled that incorporated names can only be used by incorporated companies.
How can I legaly take hold of my domain name, without paying an arm and a leg, since godaddy.com sells them for $6? I am the owner a corporation and now I want to use the domain that matches since it isn't being used by anything important, it just has some 'dummy text'.
How can incorporated companies yake hold of domain names that were snatched by cybersquatters?
Go to http://www.icann.org/ and see if you have a case or not.
ICANN is who oversees domain names and disputes.
You say that you recently incorporated the domain name, if the person who currently owns the name registered it before you incorporated you may not have a case.
Cybersquatting is the registering and marketing of a domain name with the intent of profiting from someone else's trademarked or popular name. If they registered the name before you incorporated it they are not cybersquatting they may have plans for development also.
