Are they more reliable or something....do they provide more or better services? Why do they pay $30+ a year for domain registration thorugh network solution when one can register way cheaper ones($7) elsewhere..?

Or to be specific, support. You'll notice that those who offer .com domain registrations between $6-$10 hardly offer 24/7 phone support, much more toll-free.
Go Daddy offers 24/7 toll phone support. But it's not TOLL-FREE.
I've seen at 2-3 companies offer 24/7 toll-free phone support. But based on my research, it depends on any of the following:
1. How they started out, especially if they began as webhosts.
2. What their business models are, especially if they're focusing on website hosting and hardly providing effective domain management tools.
Especially #2, it depends on their business models. Those models dictate their prices, practices, etc.
Personally I'd never recommend Network Solutions for the small business owner, although I can understand corporations go to them for support reliability.

I have asked myself that a million times and never came up with a better answer than people don't like change. Back in the days you could only register with network solutions. I must prefer checking out http://www.yourdomainforless.info/ for the latest best deals on cheap domain names. There are many registrars aside from netsol that offer a lot more like free private registration, free forwarding, etc.
