domain name registration is wher you register your name with DNS servers. Essentially everything on the internet is linked to an IP address. However no one wants to remember the IP address of every web site server on the planet (by typing 125.454.44.694 etc) so they have different names like www.yahoo.com. DNS servers essentailly take the name yahoo.com and convert it into a valid IP address for your computer to connect to and retrieve the web page from.
Webhosting is a service provided by companies like godaddy and what not to allow people to store web pages on there servers for a small fee. Essentially you go to them when you don't have a web server of your own to host your web page and they will put it up for you. So if you want a web page under the address of "imfreakincool.com" then you would create a web page and pay godaddy to host it for you. Go daddy takes care of the DNS registration process to make it so when people type in your web address it will connect to the server where your web page is located.
I hope that answers your question and that it was clear enough.
What is the difference between domain name registration and webhosting ??
domain is the name of your adress
like
www.yahoo.com
webhosting is where your pages will be stored and resolve that adress you typed before
What is the difference between domain name registration and webhosting ??
Both answers above are correct, but I wanted to give an example. Domain name registration will get you a name like
www.thissam.com
But that is it - you do not get web space when you register. That is what Web Hosting is for - you pay for a company to house your website.
You can pay for web hosting without registering for a domain - but you will not have your www.thissam.com address. You will have something like:
www.webhostcompany.com/thissam
If you are new to creating web sites and aren't doing anything serious, then this is a better way to go. You can always register later on once you get the hang of things.
