Okay say I buy a domain name lets use www.help.org. But now I need someone to host it. How does this work? Is there a free hosting site you would recommend?
Okay I need some website help please?!?
Have you already bought the domain name?
If not, here are two freebies:
http://geocities.yahoo.com/
http://www.angelfire.lycos.com/
ADD:
Hang on to the domain name for a future website, though.

if you go through yahoo. they have a site builder that is real easy to use and they will host if as well.
Granted buying a the site with a host cost a little more but sometimes its worth it so you can get all the help you need.

I use www.1and1.com for hosting and registering a domain name. They're reasonably priced and I've had sites with them for a few years now. You might consider looking in to them.

once you have bought your domain name, you can go to GoDaddy.com to buy a "hosting space" where they will set aside a specific space in their web server to host your website.
depending on the web technology, you will have to choose either windows (asp, asp.net) or linux (php, ruby, java, cgi, coldfusion) server. if you're just looking to host some simple .html pages, then you can go with either one.

once you buy the "space" in their server, they will send you all the information that tells you how to create users, upload files, and manage sites (how to generate more traffic via ad, emails, etc.).
i've been using their site to host 3 websites and i definitely recommend it.
there are some free hosting sites, but i just don't trust any of them.... just my $0.02.

http://www.1and1.com is ok; I don't like how their control panel is laid out. You can also check out http://www.totalchoicehosting.com. Good luck.
