I got my files to the remote server but nothing is under my domain name yet. How long does it usually take? I am hosting with Godaddy.
How long does it take a web server to put your site online?
Web servers don't put sites on-line, they merely hold
the data associated with your site and domain name.
You are talking about a domain registration here,
and the correct answer is, just as long as it takes
GoDaddy to update/refresh their DNS servers.
Once the domain resolves, then your site pages will
immediately become visible. You've not given the TLD
suffix, nor the date/time of registration, so I can't

The 48 to 72 hours for full propagation of a domain is
now something of an old wives tale. Registries tend to
quote this as a safety margin, since mistakes and
delays, can and do, happen. ;o) Propagation and
resolution tends to be much faster these days.
An example ..
... when I complete and finalize a domain registration
( something done regular basis, often direct with the
Registry themselves ), I make sure my DNS server is
updated at the same time. The result? A domain tends
to be alive and kicking ( resolving fully ), somewhere
between 5 and 30 minutes after registration.
If your site pages take too long to appear, then either
