How can I find out the hosing company of a particular website?    [Imwebhost]

I need to know how to contact the organisation hosting my organisations website. I know my company bought web space from a company that bought a resellers package. My hosting company is messing me up, they won't release my domain name. I feel my only choice now is to contact the company main reseller.

Please I need help, advice, Suggestion, in solving this problem. I don't want to loose my job.

How can I find out the hosing company of a particular website?

Go to iwhois.com, type the domain name on the search box, and click Search. Then scroll down the results and look at the part where it says something like "Domain servers" or "DNS servers".

If it says something like ns1.yourhost.com and ns2.yourhost.com, note the yourhost.com part of it. Usually that's the domain name of the hosting provider.

So if it said something like ns1.hostgator.com and ns2.hostgator.com, then the host domain is hostgator.com. That belongs to Hostgator, which is a well-known hosting provider around here as well.

On the other hand, it seems your main concern is really the domain name. Look at the WHOIS results again and check the line "registrar".

The line "registrar" indicates who really registered the domain name. Your current host is likely a "reseller" for that "registrar".

However, legal agreements between the registrar and their reseller partner force the former to refer end-users to the latter for resolution FIRST. If you've honestly exhausted all means of trying to get your issue fixed with the reseller but nothing fruitful happens, then contact the registrar and explain fully what happened.

More often than not, the registrar has a process to possibly resolve reseller problems.

I must caution you that this is going to be potentially more difficult than you can possibly expect. Don't expect this to be resolved immediately, but keep at it nonetheless.

Good luck.
