I am running a network of about 14 computers but three are wireless, the trouble is, I am not very good at wireless! When we set it up before, it was set so only the three dedicated computers could use the wireless connection. Now we have changed the server and everything is working but I'm not sure how to make the wireless connection secure again. At the moment, people can connect to the wireless network as they please and I obviously need to stop this! Any tips would be greatly appreciated!
(Using windows XP and Zxyxel equipment if that helps)
Thanks!
Secure Wifi with mac address?
best thing to do is use mac filtering!
u just need to get everyones mac address on each computer by going into cmd (command prompt) and typing ipconfig /all
it should show the physical mac address, u need this so that only people with that mac address can connect, and obviously each mac address is different and unique!
best thing to do is use wpa instead of wep :)

The laziest way is wep... just come up with a key (hex or code, depending on your router) and copy it into the wifi comps.
You can go mac filters, wap, etc if you are heavy security conscious.

You need to enable MAC address filtering in the wireless access point. This will allow only the computers whose MAC addresses you specify to access the wireless network, and no one else. Along with this, SSID Broadcast should be shut off so no one can "see" the wireless network. You will need to set up each workstation the connect to whatever the SSID name is automatically. Last but not least you should enable WEP security on all wireless connections and in the access point. That way, even if someone knows the SSID, they can't connect without knowing the "paraphrase" or password.
