My undergraduate degree is in Politics and Religion and I now work in an administrative assistant type role for a local hospital. If I could do anything I would be either an event planner or radio host. My job pays for school, so I want to take advantage of the opportunity for graduate school. I just have no idea what to get a degree in. The only rule to get the money is that it has to be for a job need within the system, which would allow for just about anything. I have narrowed my choices down to:
Hospital Administration
Business Administration in Marketing
General Business Administration
Communications
Law School
My heart is most leaning towards the Communications degree, put after one degree that is basically worthless, I would like to get a degree in a marketable field that will increase my earning potential.
Any thoughts, ideas, suggestions?
What should I go to Grad School for?
Let me start by saying, if increasing earning potential is a top priority, I'd cross "radio host" off the list.
-- Masters in Hospital Administration makes sense if you see yourself in healthcare administration longterm. Healthcare will always be in demand, especially with baby boomers retiring.
-- MBA/ MBA/Marketing is good choice if you want to be in event planning. Could work towards marketing opportunties within your current employer. And it's a good starting point to network with other marketing professionals.
-- Communications -- Good degree if you're currently in a communications field, and a fun field of study. However, with your background, it initially won't as financially profitable as an MBA degree.
-- Law School. Well, there's always law school (pending LSAT scores). Personally, I'd pursue law school only if I had a strong desire to be in the legal world.
Hope that helps.
