to start out you will be better off useing a paid web host, many now days offer the complete ecommerce package, all you need to do is to create your web store and maintain it, many web hosting companies will even create and maintain this for you at a cost, then later on set up your own hosting server once you know that you have the customer base to warrant it.

I don't know how much experience you have, but I didn't have much at all. I used a company that offered the software, hosting, tutorial, support and everything all in one package.
